2011 People's Choice Awards: Johnny Depp Wins Favorite Movie Actor


People's Choice Awards regular Johnny Depp was a winner again at Wednesday night, January 5 prize-giving in Los Angeles. The "Pirates of the Caribbean" star edged out "Twilight" star Robert Pattinson for Favorite Movie Actor a year after he was awarded the first Favorite Movie Actor of the Decade Award at the 2010 event.

Pattinson also missed out on the Favorite Male Star Under 25 Award - toZac Efron. Other early winners includedTaylor Swift, who claimed the Favorite Country Artist honor and the Kardashians, who landed the Favorite TV Guilty Pleasure prize.

Neil Patrick Harris and Jane Lynch were named the Favorite TV Comedy Actor and Actress and Adam Sandler received the Favorite Comedic Star award from his "Just Go With It" co-star Jennifer Aniston.

Jerry Bruckheimer is once again giving a treat to "Pirates of the Caribbean" fans by sharing another photo from "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides". Posted on his Twitter on December 29, the image reveals a flag which could be seen on Blackbeard's ship in the film as he writes, "Blackbeard's flag flies high on the Queen Anne's Revenge mast."

Johnny Depp Does 'Rum Diary' to Fulfill Promise

Johnny Depp is glad he was finally able to make a movie version of Hunter S. Thompson's "The Rum Diary" - because it fulfills a promise he made to the writer before his death. The Hollywood star met cult author Thompson "many years ago" and claims he and the writer discovered a long-lost script at Thompson's home, which they agreed to work on as a film with director Bruce Robinson.

The script Depp and Thompson discovered was published as "The Rum Diary" in 1998, but the movie project fell through because Robinson had decided to take a break from Hollywood. So Depp was delighted when the filmmaker revisited the proposal following Thompson's death in 2005, as he can finally fulfill his promise when the picture is released next year.

'Deathly Hallows' Epilogue Reshoot Wrapped Over the Weekend



After recently returning to the set of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows", Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint have once again said goodbye to each other. The three main stars reshot "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II" epilogue scenes just days before Christmas and wrapped it over the weekend, MTV Movies Blog reports.

The filming took place in Leavesden studios while the scenes are actually set at King's Cross Station.

'Harry Potter' Star Michael Gambon Trying His 'Luck' on HBO Series

Michael Gambon jumps from big to small screen and he's making his first U.S. television debut at the same time. The Brit is to take a recurring role on HBO drama series "Luck" which is about several characters who are tied to the same horse-racing track.

Produced under David Milch/Michael Mann collaboration, "Luck" puts Dustin Hoffman in the lead role named Ace Brenstein. Now Gambon is to play a yet-to-be-named character who is "a nemesis or worthy adversary for" Brenstein. Gambon previously worked with Mann in Oscar nominated film "The Insider".

Nick Cave Escaped Car Crash Uninjured



Rocker Nick Cave had a lucky escape on Tuesday, December 7 evening after he walked away unscathed from a car crash in Sussex, south England. The Australian star was driving his Jaguar with his twin sons as passengers when he smashed into a speed camera in Hove.

No other vehicles were involved in the collision and no one was harmed. A police spokesperson says, "The camera belongs to the Sussex Safer Roads Partnership, not the police, and the railings belong to the local highway authority. Both agencies were informed. Nobody has been arrested but police inquiries are continuing."

'Tangled' Outdoes 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I' at Box Office

"Tangled" has emerged on the peak of North American Box Office on its second weekend. After giving a strong competition to "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I" last week, the new take on Rapunzel tale claims the first spot with an estimated $21.5 million.

"Quality rises to the top," Disney distribution boss Chuck Viane comments on the film's receipts. "Meantime, we have the holidays ahead of us, and therein lies the strength of our long-term prospects." The animation, which is released in 2D and 3D, has made a total of $96.5 million cume so far.

"Deathly Hallows: Part I", which had maintained the champ title for two weeks, now lands on the second place with an estimated $16.7 million. Despite dropping about 65.9% in ticket sales, the movie does not go anywhere far from the top position since there was not any big title making its debut last weekend.

"Burlesque", "Unstoppable" and "Love and Other Drugs" climb up one position each to the third, fourth and fifth place respectively. The drama musical and the drama thriller add an estimated $6.1 million each, while the R-rated romantic movie takes in an approximately $5.7 million.

Meanwhile, newcomer "The Warrior's Way" enters the chart on the ninth place with an estimated $3 million cume. "Black Swan", which got rave reviews, debuts on the thirteenth with an estimated $1.4 million from the screenings in selected U.S. theaters.

Girls Aloud star Kimberley Walsh has criticized Elizabeth Hurley and Shane Warne for publicly flirting on Twitter.com prior to their romance - insisting it was unfair on their former partners. "Austin Powers" star Hurley met cricket ace Warne earlier this year and struck up a friendly relationship, posting messages on the microblogging website revealing he's her "favorite Australian" and suggestively saying her dog "sends you a special lick and says he'd like to put his silky head on your shoulder".

Demi Lovato Snapped Leaving Rehab Center for Christmas Break



Demi Lovato has spent her time with the loved ones on Christmas Day. The star, who has checked into a rehab in early November, was getting a break from the rehab treatment on December 25 and picked up by her family for a Christmas Day outing in Woodridge, Illinois.

In her first outing since joining the rehab stint, the 18-year-old "Camp Rock" star was spotted wearing an animal-print jacket on top of her black ensemble.

Next week, Britney Spears will give the first taste to her new album via its lead single "Hold It Against Me". The news was revealed by Sharon Dastur, program director for New York's Z100, in an interview featured in the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly.

The Producers Guild of America and Writers Guild of America have announced the nominees for their own 2011 awards. It comes out as no surprise anymore that such movies as "Inception" and "Black Swan", which have received a lot of praises during 2010, land nods at both prize-giving events.

The two films along with "The Fighter" and "The Kids Are All Right" are mentioned at The Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures category. All of them will also compete for Best Original Screenplay at Writers Guild Awards.

"The Princess Diaries" stars Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews are in negotiations to reteam for an upcoming episode of "Glee", according to U.K. reports. Dame Julie is in talks to play the grandmother of Chris Colfer's gay character Kurt Hummel, while 2011 Oscars co-host Hathaway is reportedly close to signing on to play his aunt, according to the Daily Express.

Anne Hathaway's Portrayal of Judy Garland Postponed


Production on an upcoming biopic of Judy Garland, starring Anne Hathaway, has been pushed back to allow the actress and movie executives extra time to deal with the "sensitive project". "The Devil Wears Prada" star last year signed on to play the "Wizard of Oz" legend in a big screen adaptation of biographer Gerald Clarke's 2001 book "Get Happy: The Life of Judy Garland".
